March and The Gilchrist Fam

Well let's just say that the month of March was fun, busy, and exciting for us here in New York.... Actually, I should say it was fun, busy, and exciting for us here in New York AND in Florida, Georgia, and Washington DC. Yes, that is right the month of March had us traveling around a bit!!!

First off our BIGGEST  most wonderful news is that we are adopting a baby boy in May (yep, like in a month). We are SO excited and feel so blessed to have our prayers answered for another baby to come to our family! Grayer is thrilled and tells everyone he sees that he is getting a baby brother. Some people look confused as they glance at my belly and see nothing there, it is kind of entertaining to watch but then we feel bad and explain that we are adopting:) We have always been open to adopting but hadn't seriously considered or looked into it yet because we were working with fertility doctors and such. Then around Christmas a miracle happened and we were approached by a wonderful and beautiful young women who asked us if we would be interested in adopting her baby. We instantly said, "YES!" and have been expressing prayers of gratitude to Heavenly Father for this amazing young women and her courage and sacrifice to give up her baby to us ever since!

To add to the excitement of this announcement in early March my (Susan's) parents took our family plus 2 of my other siblings and their families to Disney World! There were 16 of us total and we had an absolute blast together. We went to 3 parks: Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom, and Animal Kingdom! The weather was perfect, my Dad was the perfect "fast pass" runner; my sister Megan was the best to ride a roller-coaster with because she giggles the whole time (it takes away all your fear:)); my Mom was the best Grandma ever to take the kids while the adults went on rides; and Grayer was the best "chicken" - he still cries every time we step into a line begging me not to take him on a ride. For example: today we went to the movie theater and as we waited in line he was worried we were getting on a ride. Basically while we were in Disney World we couldn't tell him anything we were doing so he wouldn't freak out before hand... we would wait in the lines and get up to the front and by that time it was too late to turn back so he had to go through with it - are we mean or what?! Here are just a few pictures from our trip.

All 16 of us
My cute Mom can't contain her excitement:)

After Florida we drove back to Georgia with my brother Rob and his family to visit for a few days! It was really fun to be with their family again. We mostly just stayed home and relaxed as we tried to recover from our long days at Disney but we did get in a few fun and special things together like: Going on morning runs with Rob and Flori. Grayer loved his time on the trampoline. We celebrated my niece Sarah Jane's birthday with a delicious coconut cream pie. One day Grayer, Rob, and I met my niece Bea at school for lunch, it was really fun to be with her and Grayer loved seeing her classroom. I think it made him excited for school too:) We went on a double date with Rob a Flori to a late night movie, The Hobbit. Last, Andy scheduled a vocal coaching with a UGA faculty member where he got some good and encouraging feed back, which was exciting for him. While Andy was in his coaching I went with Rob to his office on campus so he could get some work done but we just ended up talking and it was really fun to have that time with him!!! Thanks Rob and Flori for a great time in Georgia!

After getting back from Florida and Georgia we quickly caught our breath and headed to Washington DC where Andy had an audition for a summer program! His audition was in the Kennedy Center which is where the Washington National Opera is located. His audition went AWESOME!! In fact he had some people from the Opera Company show up to hear him, they were all really giddy with excitement as they heard him sing and worked with him for a short time. He was told he would hear back from them within 24 hours and sure enough within 24 hours he was accepted into the summer program and told that if he would attend and apply what he was taught they would invest in his career!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Andy, deserves this so much, he has put in so much work and it was time for someone to really acknowledge the tremendous talent he has! Well, the audition was the main reason we went to DC but Grayer and I tagged along for a bit of a vacay too! In the few short days we had we did the Washington DC tour of monuments, national buildings, and museums! It was fun to be together as our little family! p.s. Every building we stood in Grayer reminded us that he didn't wan't to go on any rides... I think we traumatized him:)
The new Martin Luther King Monument

You can see at the bottom it is still under construction from the earth quake that damaged it.

Smithsonian Museum of Natural History...
Funny Story: These museums don't sugar coat anything so when Grayer saw the antelope hanging limp in the tree with the cheetah he was wondering what it was doing there... "Well, honey that is the cheetah's dinner."
You can kind of see the concerning scene behind us:)
Dinosaur 3D Movie
The Hope Diamond
Smithsonian Museum of Air and Space

HAPPY #4!!

Grayer's 4th Birthday was the day before we flew back home to NY. Andy's Mom and Dad were so nice and drove down to celebrate with us!
We went to the Children's Discovery Museum then went out for lunch at Texas Rhode House.
Grayer was a bit grumpy that day, we think mostly due to the fact that he was ready to get home to his own house and own bed. He kept asking to go the airport...
But we still managed to have a great day being with family and celebrating with our little guy!!
At the construction exhibit
We love water tables

Building with magnets

We had to take a quick trip out to my sister's house to return a few things we had borrowed and while we were there she gave us some cupcakes and a candle to take back to the hotel so Grayer would have a candle to blow out on his Birthday! He loved it and requested us sing to him at least 3 times more so he could blow out the candle again and again!!!

Once we got back home to NY we had a little Birthday celebration of our own! We wanted to get in our usual Birthday traditions that we weren't able to do out west, plus we still had presents for Grayer to open! So Grayer's Birthday was extended for a few more days -- which of course he didn't mind one bit:)!!!
The traditional decorated Birthday door!
At preschool, Grayer got the special Birthday treatment... He got to be first in all the lines and activities they did that day AND he got to have his Mommy come in to read a story to his class and also bring a birthday treat to share (he requested kit-kats for his treat to share:)).
Grayer's teacher Mrs Poulsen made him this awesome Birthday crown!  He felt so special at school.
After school we went and saw "Rise of the Guardians" at the movie theater. It was great, we had the theater to ourselves plus it was a really cute show. Grayer is now fascinated with Jack Frost and the Tooth Fairy. He likes to pretend he is Jack Frost and the other night he left a note for the Tooth Fairy under his pillow!!
After the movie we headed home for presents and ice cream cake!
Awesome play-dough set
He got the games"Chutes and Ladders" and "Candy Land"
Lego Mater
CAN'T BELIEVE HE IS 4!!!!!
We love him to death and love all that he is learning as he gets older. He is a joy and absolutely, hands down, the best 4 year old in the world!!!

After Christmas Fun

We got into Idaho only a few days before Christmas, so the majority of our time there with our families was after Christmas. And we got in some good playtime together!

Christmas day brought us some snow, so the day after we just had to get out in it and play.
My favorite Picture - cute boy!!!
For lunch we had a hot-dog roast around the fire pit in my parent's backyard.
Christensen Cousins
Grandpa and Grayer enjoying lunch.

My sister, Megan, and her cute baby, Beau

Uncle Justin and Cousin Maggie
The Idaho museum kept their Nativity and Santa Display up for a few days after Christmas so we stopped in for a look. Grayer enjoyed it, but mostly wanted to skip all the "look at stuff" and head straight to the kids area.
Playing with Grandma in the Teepee
Mad that I made him stop for a picture, I am a horrible Mother:)
Proof that there really was a Santa Display!
My brother, Jon, and his family live in Idaho as well and invited us all over for dinner and games one night so my Mom could have a break from cooking. We had a blast at their house, especially Grayer, he loves playing with all his cousins!
Grayer with my Brother's cute kids, he fits into their family, don't you think?
After dinner we went downstairs and played "Just Dance" on the Wii.
Whenever we go home my girlfriends and I always try to get together for lunch. This year Jen and I were the only ones in town so it was just the 2 of us but we had a blast talking for hours!
Before we left the West to fly back home to NY we drove down to Salt Lake City to spend a few more days with family. We went to the new (or at least new to us) Family History Children's Museum. What a cool place.

Andy and my Dad!
Grayer and Grandma listening to different musical instruments from Mexico
One night my sister, Amy, and her husband, Mike drove into Salt Lake City for dinner. My Mom and Dad took us out to dinner at the "Roof" in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building - Fancy!! We had never been before, it was really nice and delicious.
This was our view from our table

I was trying to be artistic with these two pictures:)
We went to church with Amy and her family. My niece Ana is a little "mini me" because just like me she loves everything "girl" she loves make-up, she loves to do hair, but most of all she loves earrings. She loves to take out my earrings and put them back in again and again. Anyway after church I let her dress me up....
Notice, she put my bracelet in my hair, my earrings are hung over my ears, my rings are on different fingers  plus I am  adorning all their finger puppets:) Thanks Ana girl I love you!
